Deputy Principal - Upper Primary 
 
Lead Excellence.  Shape Character.  Drive Impact 

Makini Primary School invites applications from exceptional and visionary educators for the position of Deputy Principal – Upper Primary. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, drive academic excellence, and nurture a values-driven school culture where every learner thrives.

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Working closely with the Principal, the Deputy Principal will:

  • Co-create and drive a compelling school vision that inspires students, staff, and the wider community.
  • Champion innovation, including the integration of emerging technologies to enhance learning.
  • Lead continuous school improvement aligned to excellence, growth, and impact.
Academic  Leadership 
  • Oversee curriculum implementation in line with Makini standards and national guidelines.
  • Drive high-quality teaching and learning through monitoring, evaluation, and targeted improvement strategies.
  • Ensure a stimulating, safe, and high-performing learning environment for all students.
  • Coordinate internal and external assessments and track academic progress.
  • Lead structured academic review meetings and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure effective planning through quality schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources.
  • Strengthen parent partnerships through open days, meetings, and consistent communication.
Learning and Character Formation
  • Lead holistic student development through strong guidance, counselling, and mentorship programmes.
  • Build a disciplined, values-driven culture anchored on integrity, responsibility, and excellence.
  • Promote strong communication among students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
  • Ensure effective implementation of school rules, pastoral care, and career guidance structures.
  • Embed core values and positive character formation in all aspects of school life.
Administrative & Operational Leadership
  • Oversee student admissions and maintain optimal enrolment aligned to school standards.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across the school.
  • Ensure effective management of resources, facilities, safety, and school operations.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Education and relevant stakeholders when required.
  • Support budgeting, cost management, and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Oversee student welfare systems including health, transport, and safety.
School Management & Accountability
  • Support the Principal in building a high-performance, collaborative, and values-driven culture.
  • Ensure delivery of academic and operational goals.
  • Lead staff performance management, coaching, and appraisal processes.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
  • Ensure full implementation of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Foster a safe environment where concerns are raised and addressed promptly.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents and external agencies to support student wellbeing.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed) or equivalent.
  • TSC Registration.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ teaching experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of improving academic outcomes and leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and strong ethical standards.
  • Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to thrive in a dynamic, results-driven environment.
